The Dog Everyone Forgot

Heera limped down the dusty road, struggling to keep his balance. Every step hurt, and the wound on his leg made walking almost impossible. More than once he felt like giving up, but something inside him kept urging him forward. Maybe, just maybe, there was still a little hope waiting for him.

As he moved on, old memories began to surface. He couldn't help thinking about the day he had first wandered into the village.

Back then, he was strong, healthy, and full of energy. The entire village welcomed him warmly, but the people of Chaman Nagar loved him the most.

There were two reasons for their affection. Before Heera arrived, the people of Chaman Nagar could never sleep peacefully at night. Thieves frequently raided the neighborhood, making life miserable for everyone. But after Heera took it upon himself to guard the streets every night, the thefts came to a complete stop. For the first time in years, the villagers were able to sleep without fear.

The second reason was that Heera was the only dog in the neighborhood. The love and kindness he received made him believe that he wasn't just a stray anymore—he was a member of the community. He carried out his duty with complete loyalty and honesty, protecting the people who had accepted him as one of their own.

Little did he know that those happy days would soon come to an end.

One afternoon, Heera was resting quietly by the roadside when a mischievous boy deliberately rode his bicycle over one of his legs. Heera cried out in agony. Looking down, he saw that the skin on his leg had been torn open, and blood was flowing from the wound. The pain was unbearable.

Even so, he slowly dragged himself to the house of a man who often took him to his fields at night, where Heera faithfully guarded the crops until morning. Deep in his heart, Heera believed that as soon as the man saw his condition, he would surely help him.

But one day passed... then another. The man never once paid attention to him. Even the people who used to feed him every day stopped giving him food. Eventually, they chased him away from their homes, throwing stones at him and beating him with sticks.

Silently, Heera walked away.

Whenever he passed through the streets, he would sit for a while outside each house, hoping that someone would notice him and offer help. But as the days went by, no one cared. His wound worsened with each passing day, and his condition became weaker and more painful.

He couldn't understand why the same people who once loved having him around now avoided him. He kept wondering what terrible mistake he had made to deserve such hatred and neglect.

Finally, Heera decided to leave the village forever.

But his heart refused to give up hope. He thought that perhaps someone in the village would still show him kindness. With that hope, he sat down at a crossroads and waited.

After a while, he heard people approaching. Believing they had come to treat his wounds, he gently closed his eyes, trusting that help had finally arrived.

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his body.

He opened his eyes and saw a man tying a rope around his legs and dragging him mercilessly across the ground.

The cruelty of the humans shattered his heart. But there was nothing he could do anymore. Slowly, he closed his eyes once again.

Somewhere deep inside, he knew that perhaps they would never open again.
