The Bottom Cap : Part 1

Image
There was a lot of noise at school — shouts and cries that forced people to run toward the building. I too ran quickly to see what had happened. When I arrived, a crowd had gathered and I couldn’t make out the situation. As I stood there, my eyes fell on Imran — he was a teacher at that school. Imran called out; when he turned toward me his face looked terrified. I ran up to him. “What happened, brother…? Are—Da…nish…Danish…” Words were not coming out of his mouth properly. I tried to encourage him, “Don’t be afraid…what’s the matter?” He managed to say, “Danish…a fifth-grade boy…a pen’s bottom cap went into his throat…how—” Suddenly I felt a jolt. The child had been playing with a pen; the pen was in his mouth and, all of a sudden, the bottom cap lodged in his throat and he lost consciousness. “Oh my God,” I said, looking at Imran, “Take the child to the hospital quickly.” “Ha…ha…” Imran replied, trembling with panic, and hurried away. Digital World : A Modern Addiction

Jack was very disappointed with the performance of his school teams. Actually, winning or losing is a part of the game, but this loss was something he couldn't digest. In the football match, his team lost by 11 goals, and the cricket team lost in a one-sided game. He never thought something like this would happen. After the prize distribution, Jack gathered his team and gave a short talk about fitness and game techniques. Everyone listened carefully. Then he said, “Alright, cool down. We’ll give our best next time and prepare well.” “Yes, sir!” all the students replied loudly in agreement. After returning from the sports tour, Jack went straight to his home in Chicago, where his wife Lily and his son Harry were waiting for him. He greeted his wife with a cheerful smile and lovingly hugged Harry. It had been two months since he had last seen his family. Harry was 8 years old — sporty and smart at school. “How was your tour, Dad?” he asked with a smile. After a short pau...

Hameed was very excited to know his grandpa's date of birth. He was even more thrilled because that special day falls in the same week—and to top it off, it's also celebrated as Chocolate Day around the world! Yes, it was on 7th July. Hameed was in second standard and only 8 years old. Before he started school, he used to spend most of his time with his grandpa. But after joining school, he had very little time with him. The truth was, he slowly drifted away from his grandpa’s company. Most of his time after school was spent with friends and playing games. Somewhere along the way, he had forgotten his grandpa. Now, he no longer missed his grandpa’s company. Although his grandpa often called him and tried to attract him by showing chocolates, Hameed didn’t feel drawn anymore. Slowly, his grandpa became just a memory of the past. With age, grandpa’s health began to decline. He often remained unwell. Grandpa spent most of his time alone in his room. Often, the sound of h...
