So, let's learn our Magic Trick to Multiply by 9!
## ✨ Question: 18 × 9 = ?
You should have the 9 times table memorized before trying this trick!
We know that:
**18 ÷ 9 = 2**
Now with the answer 2, leave it at the unit place.
Then subtract out the same number - 2 - from 18:
**18 − 2 = 16**
Now put the answer **2** after 16:
**162**
Therefore:
### ✅ 18 × 9 = 162
Isn't that easy? Let's work on some more examples.
---
## ✨ Example 2: 27 × 9 = ?
First divide 27 by 9:
**27 ÷ 9 = 3**
Now subtract 3 from 27:
**27 − 3 = 24**
Write the number 3 in the ones' position:
**243**
Therefore:
### ✅ 27 × 9 = 243
---
## ✨ Example 3: 36 × 9 = ?
**36 ÷ 9 = 4**
**36 − 4 = 32**
Place 4 in the units position:
**324**
Therefore:
### ✅ 36 × 9 = 324
---
## ✨ Example 4: 45 × 9 = ?
**45 ÷ 9 = 5**
**45 − 5 = 40**
Place the number 5 in the ones column:
**405**
Therefore:
### ✅ 45 × 9 = 405
---
## ✨ Example 5: 63 × 9 = ?
**63 ÷ 9 = 7**
**63 − 7 = 56**
Place 7 at the ones place:
**567**
Therefore:
### ✅ 63 × 9 = 567
---
## ✨ Example 6: 72 × 9 = ?
**72 ÷ 9 = 8**
**72 − 8 = 64**
Place 8 in the unit's place:
**648**
Therefore:
### ✅ 72 × 9 = 648
---
## 🧠 Remember the Trick
For a number that is a multiple of 9:
**1. Divide the number by 9.**
**2. Take away the answer from the number you originally made.
**3. Carry the answer of the division to the unit place.
For example:
**81 ÷ 9 = 9**
**81 − 9 = 72**
Put 9 at the unit place → **729**
So:
### ✅ 81 × 9 = 729
With practice, this trick will become very easy. Test yourself and see how quickly you can answer these questions!
