Blessings
Even though she didn't want to, Raziya made her way to the kitchen. She had had a lot on her mind in the previous week, with a succession of visitors, her children's tests and more. The guests had ceased to appear and the children had taken their exams. She was feeling tired after this week, and her body was feeling weighted down. She had decided that all she would do now was rest, since her children and husband were on a picnic and they won't be home for at least two days. She was all alone at home.
However, she forgot that she, too, gets hungry. She didn't pay it any mind at first, but her tossing and turning grew. The pangs of hunger wouldn't let her close her eyes. Lastly, she lost this battle, and gingerly walked into the kitchen. The kitchen was also a mess and all the things were scattered around there. She began to think about something she could make that is simple and easy. But as they say, an empty stomach doesn't allow the brain to work well. She abandoned her mental struggle, removed the eggs from the fridge, prepared the ingredients for the omelet, quickly kneaded the dough for rotis and then prepared the omelet. She hurriedly laid the table out and sat down. As she was about to take the first bite, she heard the door bell. She rose reluctantly, and walked towards the door. She could see a weak old woman standing by the wall through the peephole.
Raziya knocked at the door.
A feeble voice called out to her: "Beta, do you have something to eat?
Raziya didn't know the answer. “Yes... yes...” she didn't know what to say.
The old lady sat on the ground, leaning on a wall. Raziya noticed that the woman was very weak, that her face showed that she hadn't eaten for days.
Looking at the old woman, Raziya said, "Acha, Khalajan (a term of respect for an elderly woman), please come in.
No my child, whatever you have just hand it over here, I can't walk anymore.
Raziya quickly went inside and offered the roti and omelet to the woman. The old woman began to eat hurriedly. Raziya continued to stare at her and then thought, "She needs water, she needs it.
The old woman's face was filled with satisfaction when she sat down to eat. My child, the food is good, may Allah bless your hands, may your children obtain a good future, may there be blessings in your husband's earning, may you live in peace.
The old woman kept on blessing. Raziya seemed to have no fatigue at all. Then the woman's voice and smile had lighted up her heart. "Khalajan, please wait, I'll bring some money," she said and went inside quickly. However, when she returned, the old woman was not seen. Raziya looked around, but the old woman had disappeared.
