Be Like a Butterfly

By: Danish

After school was over, I started walking home. I thought, why not pass through the market and buy a few essential items on the way?

As I was passing through the market, I noticed someone trying to hide after seeing me. I looked closely and saw that it was my student, Salman. I remembered that his father owned a vegetable shop. Perhaps his father had gone out, and Salman was managing

the shop in his absence. He seemed shy after noticing me.

I walked toward his shop. He greeted me shyly,
“Assalamualaikum, Sir.”

I replied warmly,
“Wa Alaikum Assalam. How are you, son? And where is your father?”

“I’m fine, Sir. My father has gone out for some important work,” he replied, still looking shy.

I smiled and said,

Look, son, it feels good to see you helping your father with his work. And remember — when we work hard for something good, we should never feel shy or ashamed. No work is small. It’s better to work hard than to do something wrong. But yes, son, along with helping your father, you must take your education seriously and work hard on it. Because education is the weapon that can help you win every battle in life.”

“Yes, Sir,” Salman replied with a smile and nodded.

Then he looked at me and said,
“Sir, can I ask you a question?”

“Of course, go ahead,” I nodded.

“Sir, what should we become in life?” he asked.

I smiled and replied,
“That’s a good question, Salman. Tell me, have you ever seen a butterfly?”

“Yes, Sir,” he said with a smile.

“How do you feel when you see it?”

“Very happy, Sir! I feel joyful and even play around it,” he said cheerfully.

“Exactly, Salman,” I nodded.
“When people see a butterfly — whether it’s a man, a woman, a child, or an elderly person — it brings a special kind of happiness. Everyone gets lost in its beautiful colors. For a moment, they forget their sorrows and a smile appears on their face.”

I paused for a moment, looked at Salman, and said,
“Son, we should become like a butterfly — so that whoever meets us or sees us, they smile. Even while going through our own struggles, we must learn how to overcome them with grace and inspire others to do the same. Weshould spread love to everyone around us. And most importantly, we should never lose hope in our hearts. Do you understand?”

“Yes Sir! I will become like a butterfly too!” Salman said with newfound excitement.

“Good,” I smiled. “Now quickly give me some vegetables.”

“Yes, Sir!”
