πΎ Rehan’s Morning Walk: A Step of Kindness
Rehan
was getting ready for school. He checked the timetable for the day and arranged
his subject books and notes accordingly. His mother had already prepared his
tiffin and filled his metal water bottle. Rehan studied in Class 8, and his
school operated in the morning shift. So, he woke up early every day. He was a
bright student, and all the teachers praised him for his dedication and
performance.
Rehan
was well aware of the importance of school performance, and he always tried his
best. For this reason, he created a study timetable and followed it with great
dedication. Apart from studies, he was also interested in playing cricket and
football. He even enjoyed writing short stories and poems.
“Rehan, haven’t you left for school yet?” Grandpa called
out.
“Yes, Grandpa, I’m ready now,” Rehan replied.
“Son, take the bicycle,” Grandpa suggested.
“No, Grandpa,” Rehan smiled. “My school is just 1 kilometre
away. I enjoy walking there.”
Every member of Rehan’s family often told him to use the bicycle for
going to school, but Rehan always smiled and said no. He said he enjoyed
walking — but that wasn’t the whole truth.
Rehan
always left for school an hour early. Every morning, he carefully checked each
car or four-wheeler parked in front of the house or along the road. He looked
underneath to see if any animals, like cats or dogs, were sleeping there. If he
found any, he gently woke them up and guided them away from the vehicle. Many
stray dogs often rested under cars at night, and Rehan wanted to make sure they
were safe before the engines started.
One morning, while Rehan was on his way to school, he saw a heart-breaking
scene — a dog had been crushed under the tire of a car. Nearby, the dog’s small
puppies were barking and crying in pain. The sight brought tears to Rehan’s
eyes.
He thought sadly, “How many innocent animals around the world die
like this — crushed under four-wheeler tires, just because we don’t check
before starting our vehicles? We should always look under our cars before
driving, but most people don’t even think about it.”
After
that heart-breaking incident, Rehan made a decision — he would do his best to
save animals that rested beneath parked vehicles. From that day on, he chose to
walk to school every day, checking under every car and four-wheeler along the
way. He felt happy knowing that his small effort was saving many innocent
animals from being crushed under car tires.
Now, Rehan was ready to go to school. He greeted his grandpa and mom
with a smile and stepped out of the house — where his new friend, a small
puppy, was already waiting for him.
As soon as the puppy saw Rehan, it jumped with joy. Rehan took out a
piece of bread from his pocket and gave it to the puppy, who happily ate it.
Then Rehan began walking to school, carefully checking under each car as usual.
The puppy followed him, wagging its tail.
It
had become their daily routine — the little puppy would walk with Rehan to
school, then wait for him patiently outside until school was over.
